The Small to Mid-Size Academic Library: A new series from ACRL!

About the Series

While many volumes have been published about academic libraries and their programs, these often showcase libraries with extensive staff, budgets, and materials available to them. As librarians from small to mid-size institutions, we want to provide a series aimed specifically at libraries found in ACRL’s College Libraries Section (CLS), as they often operate with minimal library staff and smaller budgets. Readers of this series will take away practical examples of work being done that is suitable for their institution size surrounding a range of topics. They will also be challenged to explore how these programs can be assessed and recreated at their own institution.

When we began work for our first volume specifically aimed at readers and collaborators from this institution type, Collaboration and Outreach for Student Success, we received an overwhelming number of proposals for our volume, indicating that the community of librarians from small to mid-size institutions is extremely strong and active. We found clear evidence of librarians doing this work when it came to collaboration and outreach, but we also believe this would translate to every part of library operations – with innovative and creative practices to fill in the gaps that low funding or staffing create.

We are thrilled to announce that The Small to Mid-Size Academic Library Series is now seeking proposals for our first two volumes, Assessment and Standards and Frameworks.
