Want to be a Librarian?

Librarians do so much more than just shelve books. Get connected online and in your community to learn more about the modern world of libraries and their many roles in advocating for spaces of community and our right to free information.

Ways to connect

The library world is a big place with a lot of different avenues to explore. The best place to start is where you're interested! Do you like kids? Young adult literature? Programming? Outreach? Are you passionate about technology and web design? Scholarship? Freedom of information? The possibilities are endless.

Some good ways to continue exploring librarianship are:

  • Apply to Volunteer at local libraries (you can usually find more information about volunteering on your local library's website)
  • Get involved with your local public library's Friends of The Library
  • Participate in library programming in your community
  • Follow library organizations and libraries in your field of interest on social media like Instagram and LinkedIn.
