History: Misc Cultures and Associations

The Association for Spanish and Portuguese Historical Studies (ASPHS) promotes interest in the scholarly study of Spain and Portugal through History and related disciplines. Membership is open to all interested in the scholarly study of Spain and Portugal.

Since 1958 the Central European History Society has promoted scholarly engagement with the region’s diverse and deeply layered history. Through their journal, conference sponsorships, grants, and prizes, they provide intellectual and material support to historians of Central Europe.

The French Colonial Historical Society encourages interest in the scholarly study of all aspects of the history of French colonization, the overseas French territories, and the legacies of French empire. It provides its members with various channels, including newsletters, annual meetings, a website, and French Colonial History, a refereed journal published by Michigan State University Press.

Founded in 1954, the Society for French Historical Studies promotes scholarship focused on the history of France from the medieval era to the twenty-first century. The Society for German-American Studies is an international professional organization dedicated to encouraging and advancing the scholarly study of the history, language, literature, and culture of the German element in the Americas. This includes coverage of the immigrants and their descendants from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and other German-speaking areas of Europe.

The Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era is an organization of historians who study and promote knowledge of American history from the Reconstruction era through the aftermath of World War I. The society brings together academic, public, and independent historians, as well as scholars in other humanities and social-science disciplines interested in these decades and their issues.

The Society for Italian Historical Studies (SIHS) is a professional organization designed to encourage the study and teaching of Italian history and culture. It promotes teaching, research, and publication in any period or field of Italian history and culture, awards prizes to students and established scholars for original contributions to these fields, sponsors conferences and lectures, cooperates with other organizations and groups that share its goals, promotes the exchange of ideas and information among all persons interested in Italian history and culture.

Founded in 1947, the Society for Reformation Research (SRR) is a North-American scholarly organization with a long and distinguished record of promoting research, writing, and dialogue on all aspects related to the Protestant and Catholic Reformations and other aspects of religious life in the early modern era.
