What is Peer Review?

Peer review is the process that most scholarly articles undergo before they can be published. When an article is peer-reviewed, it is read over by experts in the field to ensure that the article is accurate and meets the high standards of an academic journal.

We use peer-reviewed articles in college-level research because we know that information will be research-based, accurate, and credible if it has successfully gone through the peer review process.

Peer Review vs. Scholarly

Scholars publish their research in lots of ways - peer-reviewed articles are just one type of scholarship!

Is it Peer Reviewed?

How can you tell if an article has been peer-reviewed?

  1. Apply the "Peer-Reviewed" filter in Pirate Search to only see peer-reviewed articles
  2. A journal's website will tell you if it's peer reviewed: do a Google Search of the journal the article was published in.
